Current Research

I am interested in the diversity of animals and their classification. The cichlids in Lake Tanganyika offer a great variety of different lineages on which my current work lies upon. The two genera Gnathochromis and Ctenochromis are polyphyletic due to the inclusion of 'G.' pfefferi and 'C.' horei which was revealed by genetic studies. In my current project I investigate the morphology for all species of the tribe Tropheini and taxa currently assigend to the respecitve polyphyletic genera. The resulting database will be used for the taxonomic revision of the Tropheini and the description of new genera.
